Outdoors
Not everyone believes that the outdoors are just about hunting and fishing. And hey, it's a free country so they have the right to be wrong. But we digress. Sometimes the outdoors experience is a lazy canoe ride or a walk through the spring woods looking for morel mushrooms. And we would never dream of taking that away from anyone.

Bear sightings have become increasingly common in more suburban and agricultural areas across the Great Lakes. In the past several years road-killed bears have been reported in Toledo, Ohio and Flint, Michigan; in 2008 a police officer shot one in southern Michigan's Battle Creek. Similar stories have come from the southern parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario and even Iowa.

Think about the Pacific Coast Highway or maybe the shores of Maine, those spectacularly rare places where rock cliffs stand tall over the water and rock outcroppings tumble majestically to the sea. Now think about the places where a Midwesterner can get in a day of driving. It may be hard to believe, but those two -- spectacular coastline and the Midwest -- are not mutually exclusive. If you can make it to the northern shore of Lake Superior, you'll see what I mean.
