Who we are
Dave Spratt
A former newspaper editor and reporter, Dave Spratt has had a lifelong curiosity about the natural world. Dave loves to hunt deer, turkeys and waterfowl, hasn't decided whether he likes lake fishing or river fishing better, and can often be seen planting a tree (native species only, please), peering into the canopy after some barely perceptible songbird or rubber-necking his way down Michigan roadways at anything he can spot moving.
Jeff Fall
Jeff Fall may make his primary living in the medical equipment field, but his passions lie under an open sky. In late winter he's the guy hooking steelhead after steelhead in a driving Michigan snow. In the spring you may find him belly-crawling toward a field edge after a big tom turkey. And he has killed his share of whitetails with both arrows and bullets. He's also a charter member of that other PETA – People Eating Tasty Animals.
Rob Fitzgerald
Rob is the only member of greatnorthernoutdoors.net who can say he has killed a flying bobwhite quail with a .22 fired from the hip (while his buddy missed with a .20 gauge). Rob comes from one of Michigan's first families of fly fishing and has spent his entire life enjoying the outdoors. When he's inside, he happens to be a wizard with a computer. And no, he won't take a look at your misbehaving printer.
Tony Hansen
Tony Hansen is one of the country's most talented young outdoor writers, and he has the clips to prove it from Bowhunter Magazine, Michigan Out-of-Doors and his blog on www.realtree.com. Tony's kind of a quiet guy, so he probably wouldn't tell you he's an expert turkey caller (he gives seminars) and one heck of a bass fisherman. But he will tell you that his obsession is big whitetail bucks, and if you're nice he might show you some of the monsters he's put on the ground.
Juri Geidans (camp cook)
Many of the recipes and game cooking tips you'll find on GNO are a direct result of Juri's time in the woods and on the water. Juri has been described as a guy born 300 years too late: He's a masterful hunter-gatherer who strives to leave the world with as light a footprint as he can muster. And when he hands you a plate you eat every last bite, because more often than not it's one of the best things you've ever tasted.
Tyler Dunn (game keeper)
Tyler Dunn is the guy who most often replenishes the corn pile in front of the Great Northern Deer Cam, and he's usually hunting big bucks or slaying catfish near his Ohio home when he has time to spare. He's also hell on wheels: Tyler started racing go-karts at age 6, and now at 24 he holds a number of track records in the Buckeye Sprint Series.
